Short description

Building on a historical analysis of the world of organisations and the theories that have influenced their development, the course provides an insightful description of the current complexity of the concept of network-enterprise, offering definitions that are frequently innovative and conducting an extensive investigation on its functioning and the connotations of this concept. The evolution of production systems in the transition from the Tayloristic organisational model to systems that adopt the Japanese lean production models is critically assessed; in addition, attention focuses on the strategies that influence the management of the network-enterprise, highlighting the ethical and cultural implications that point to a rediscovery of the enterprise spirit. From an external perspective, enterprise networks are also analysed as new phenomena that can characterise the life of small and medium sized production units and in the final part, course explores the concept of industrial districts, putting forward the innovative idea of a virtual industrial district.
