The University of Tartu, the leading university in Estonia, is a well established research and teaching institution with a proud history, yet always on the barricades with full readiness to look to the future and break new ground. It was founded in 1632 by the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus.

While featuring all major substantive disciplines and areas, UT stresses the importance of interna-tional co-operation and partnerships all over the world. Its robust standing is evidenced by the fact that it is the only Baltic university that has been invited to join the Coimbra Group, a prestigious club of renowned research universities.
